POLICY: Scottish Government consultation on the delivering an Employment Injury Assistance Scheme

12 June 2024

Since April 2020, the Scottish Government has been responsible for the Industrial Injuries Scheme in Scotland. This Scheme is currently delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) under an agency agreement which is due to run out at the end of March 2026.

RCN Scotland agrees that the Industrial Injuries Scheme needs to be reformed. In particular, people with Long Covid derived from work, need to be compensated without being required to go through a personal injuries claim. Women’s health and safety has also been neglected and claims take too long to process. RCN Scotland is disappointed it has taken so long to start on the process of replacing the Scheme and expects to be involved in the proposed stakeholder group to advise on the Scheme’s replacement.
