POLICY: Scottish Parliament consultation on a proposed Right to Palliative Care Bill

04 June 2024

Miles Briggs MSP has worked with Marie Curie to propose a legal definition of palliative care and the creation of a right to access it in a range of settings in Scotland.

There is significant unmet need and gaps in access to palliative care across Scotland. This Bill has the potential to address this, alongside adequate and sustained investment in training and workforce to ensure palliative care services are available in a range of settings. RCN Scotland will continue to engage with this proposal to ensure that nursing staff who provide palliative care as well as those who signpost to services, are able to work in a safe and supportive environment and existing services are not put under extra pressure.
