COVID-19 pregnancy risk assessment letter

We have developed the below letter to send to your employer regarding a pregnancy risk assessment during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We know that this can feel quite scary to do, but you can be reassured you are doing the right thing in raising your concerns and the RCN will support you to take things further if needed.

Dear [Insert manager's name],

Pregnancy risk assessment

I am formally notifying you that I am [insert number of weeks] pregnant and require a pregnancy risk assessment to be carried out as a matter of urgency.  

As my employer, under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 (or if in Northern Ireland, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000), you are legally required to carry out a pregnancy risk assessment.  

As a pregnant member of staff, I may be more at risk of COVID-19. As my employer, you should be taking steps to assess my risk and put measures in place to reduce any harm to me or my unborn child.  

The following guidance sets out what steps you need to take to protect me:

I also request that this risk assessment is reviewed when I am approaching 28 weeks, so any necessary additional steps can be taken to protect me.  

Please carry out this risk assessment as a matter of urgency.  

If a risk assessment is not carried out within one week then I will be escalating this matter to the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥.
