Driving positive change for the independent health and social care sector

Sarah Seeley 4 Dec 2024 Eastern

Sarah Seeley, in her new role as the Eastern region's Lead Nurse for Independent Health and Social Care, talks about her passion for making a difference and her hopes for the sector.

I am delighted to introduce myself as the new Lead Nurse for Independent Health and Social Care in RCN Eastern. My own journey in nursing began over 36 years ago. Throughout this time, I have had the privilege of working across a variety of health care settings within both the NHS and the independent sector. Each experience has strengthened my passion for making a meaningful difference for nursing staff and the patients you care for.

In 2021, I joined the RCN as a Senior Officer—a role that allowed me to advocate for nursing staff and support them in times of need. I was fortunate to be seconded into the RCN’s Nursing Department as a Professional Lead for the Professional Framework Programme. In that role, I focused on enhancing the structures that underpin our profession, ensuring they remain current, relevant, supportive, and empowering for nursing staff everywhere, with the new definition of nursing outlining the four pillars of modern nursing now, and the safety critical profession nursing is.

As I step into this new role, my aim is to champion nursing staff working in the independent health and social care sector across the Eastern region and nationally. These nursing professionals are an essential part of our profession, and I am committed to understanding your experiences, challenges and aspirations. My work will focus on promoting your voices, advocating for your needs, and ensuring you have access to the tools and resources you deserve to thrive in your roles.

My career has always been about driving positive change. Using my background in service innovation and development, I have had the opportunity to lead transformational initiatives and support nursing staff in delivering excellent care. I hope to bring this same drive and dedication to my new role, working alongside you to strengthen and celebrate the vital contributions of nursing staff in the independent and social care sector.

I look forward to meeting and working with you as we continue this journey together. Let us shape a brighter future for nursing and the communities we serve.

For all our nursing staff in the Eastern region, if you would like to find out more about our work in the independent sector and how we might be able to support your organisation and/or your own professional development, please do get in touch with me.
