Professor Aisha Holloway, Chair of Nursing Studies and Co-Director of the Edinburgh Global Nursing Initiative, within the School of Health in Social Science at The University of Edinburgh and Programme Director of the Nursing Now Challenge has received the RCNÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥™s top honour of being made a Fellow of the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥ in recognition of her leadership to influence the global nursing agenda and, as a consequence, global health-promoting policies, and also her commitment to early career leadership development in nursing.

Aisha’s work has contributed to raising the global position of nursing and ensuring this reflects the diversity and talent of the profession from around the world. Aisha is a prominent, committed and influential global ambassador for nursing who has collaborated closely with the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and World Health Organisation (WHO) as Programme Director for Research & Evidence for the Nursing Now! Campaign. 

Her tenacity and passion, particularly for supporting nurses in the early stages of their careers, has been transformational for many, and has led to the creation of opportunities for learning and development that they would not otherwise have had.

“This is a thoroughly deserved award for Aisha. Her professionalism and commitment to advancing the art and science of nursing and the improvement of health care in Scotland and globally, exemplifies the core values of the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥.

”Aisha’s impact is only outmatched by her passion for her profession. She is a leader who leads by living out her vision for quality healthcare that improves the lives of all who receive health services. 

“I look forward to working with her in her new role as an RCN Fellow as the College continues on our ambitious professional agenda."

On receiving the honour, Aisha said:

‘It is such a privilege to receive this honour from the ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥. During my career I have been fortunate to work alongside the most stellar of individuals, striving to improve the profile and position of nursing globally. The impact of nursing on global population health, economic growth and gender equality must never be underestimated. I continue to be inspired by the thousands of early career nurses from across the world. This honour shines a light on them all and I am truly thankful to receive it.’
