The RCN’s Let’s Talk… Inclusion toolkit offers members ideas for starting conversations around equity, diversity and inclusion.

It has been developed to help people to better understand issues like microaggressions, psychological safety and allyship – as well as actions we can all take to promote equity, how to speak up and get help.

The resource also includes scenarios with advice on how to deal with various real-life situations, such as issues around ethnicity, disability, gender identity and pregnancy.

Wendy Irwin, RCN Diversity and Equalities Co-ordinator, said: “Inclusion is about creating great workplaces that the whole of the nursing family can thrive in.

“We know that discriminatory language and behaviour causes widespread harm to everyone and that’s why we’re excited to share the Let’s talk… inclusion toolkit. Designed specifically for nursing and midwifery staff in all settings, it provides both information and inspiration on ways that we all can be better allies for inclusion. The toolkit highlights the important role that the profession has in advancing equity.”

The RCN is committed to transforming from a non-discriminatory, non-racist organisation to an anti-discriminatory and anti-racist one. This year we launched our equity, diversity and inclusion strategy, outlining our commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equitable support for everyone. As part of this, we’re committed to creating inclusive workplaces for all RCN members.
