We are pleased to announce the popular RCN and SOM joint Occupational Health Nursing Conference returns for the seventh year in November.
This is a hybrid conference and delegates will have the option to join us in-person at the RCN HQ, 20 Cavendish Square, London, W1N 0RG for those all important networking opportunities with peers, speakers and exhibitors. Alternatively, content will be accessible online via Zoom Events.
In-person places are limited, so don’t delay and book yours now.

- Refresh on back to basics for health surveillance programmes, report writing and workplace wellbeing
- Understand the context of modern noise exposure profiles
- Expand knowledge on mentoring, health of drivers, neurodiversity and sleep at work.

This conference is open to all occupational health professionals and those interested in the sector, including nurses, AHPs, students, occupational therapists and GPs.

Christine Poulter, Honorary Strategic Clinical Advisor for the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) and Clinical Director of OHCP (an independent Occupational Health Consultancy).
RGN RM SCPHN BSc BA MSc
Following a career as a nurse, midwife, and public health, Christine has around 20 years of experience in Occupational Health.
Her broad range of experience includes NHS, corporate, armed services, manufacturing, higher education and public health.
As an independent practitioner, she focuses on delivering top-quality service to small businesses, SMEs and charities through her own business, which she set up in 2016.
Setting up her own business, gave her the opportunity to offer her time to the SOM as an Editorial Assistant. When the honorary position of Strategic Clinical Advisor for the Society of Occupational Medicine was advertised, being the successful applicant provided incredible opportunities. This position has offered multiple occasions for collaborative working with some of the country’s top experts in occupational health.
Christine has contributed to several SOM publications, including skin, sleep, mental health, careers, and health surveillance. She is a participant in the SOM’s Sleep, Multidiscipline, Health Surveillance and Leadership Special Interest Groups. She delivers lectures and talks to universities and community charities. Her key focus is on prioritising high-quality and bespoke approaches that serve the client, above financial success.
Janet Frimpong, Team Leader– Senior Specialist OH Nurse Practitioner, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
Janet qualified as a nurse in 1994, with over 25years experience in medical, surgical, women’s health and cardiac nursing before embarking on a career in Occupational Health. She completed her BSc SCPHN OH Nursing degree at Brunel University, in 2011.
Janet has been working in an OH setting for over 15 years, in both private and public sector. Her current interest is in health and wellbeing of the working population; looking at mental wellness, obesity and menopause.
As an OH nurse, the Government's Public Health agenda underpins her knowledge, skills and experience when dealing with a range of clients within her specialty.
Janet has been a member of the Public Health Forum since 2009, Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) since 2013 and IOH previously Association of OH Nurse Practitioner (AOHNP) since 2012.
Clare Forshaw, Principal Lead for Occupational Health & Hygiene Partner at the Rail Safety and Standards Board
Clare is the founder and director of the UK Hearing Conservation Association which was launched in March 2019 and aims to prevent damage to people’s hearing health and other noise related health conditions; through a multidisciplinary approach. She also sits on the Board of the British Occupational Hygiene Society.
For the 'day job' Clare is the Principal Lead for Occupational Health & Hygiene Partner at the Rail Safety and Standards Board. She previously held the position of Head of the Centre for Health at HSE’s Laboratory and spent many years working for the HSE’s Construction Sector Health Risks Management Team.
Prof. Nancy Doyle, Founder & Chief Research officer, Genius Within
Nancy Doyle is an HCPC registered Occupational Psychologist and Visiting Professor at Birkbeck, University of London where she CoDirects the Centre for Neurodiversity at Work. Nancy founded the nonprofit Genius Within CIC, who provide coaching, assessments, training, online education and profiling and consultancy to over 6000 neurodivergent people each year, in employment, unemployment and for those in prison.
Prof. Jo Yarker, Professor of Occupational Psychology, Birkbeck University | Managing Partner, Affinity Health at Work
Jo is a Registered and Chartered Occupational Psychologist specialising in occupational health and wellbeing. She conducts pioneering research and leads strategy development, risk management and training and development programmes. Jo is Managing Partner of Affinity Health at Work, a research and consultancy organisation, and a Professor of Occupational Psychology at Birkbeck, University of London. Jo works with the public and private sector to improve mental health and wellbeing at work, and has received funding from the World Health Organisation, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, and the UK Health and Safety Executive. She contributes to national guidance and publishes widely to share new knowledge, evidence and tools to promote and sustain health and wellbeing at work.
Professor Clare Anderson, Professor of Sleep and Circadian Science, University of Birmingham
Clare Anderson is a Professor of Sleep and Circadian Science at the University of Birmingham, where she leads the Sleep and Circadian Laboratory at the Centre for Human Brain Health. Having worked across the UK, United States and Australia, she is recognised globally for her work in sleep and circadian timing and the impact on health, safety, and performance, with specific emphasis on driver safety. She has more than 25 years’ experience leading large-scale research projects understanding the causes and characteristics of insufficient sleep; the development of novel biomarkers of alertness/drowsiness to best detect the impaired state; and the evaluation and validation of fatigue-detection technologies for improved safety. She has been an advisor/consultant to multiple (Victorian) government road safety departments, has provided expert witness assistance for suspected fall asleep crashes, and delivered guidance/support across industry sectors with respect to sleep, fatigue and worker safety.
Janet O'Neill, Deputy Head, National School of Occupational Health and NHS England
Janet O'Neill has 20 + years of experience as an Occupational Health Nurse Advisor, working in the commercial sector and in various roles including clinical governance and training. She has been Deputy Head of the National School of Occupational Health (NSOH) for the last 18 months with a remit of quality improvement and workforce growth within the Nurse and Multidisciplinary teams. The NSOH work with a variety of partners to ensure the support of their strategy which can be found on the website
Lucy Smith, Head of Occupational Health and Wellbeing, Mitie
Lucy is an accomplished Occupational Health Nurse Specialist with over a decade of diverse experience. Throughout her career, she has supported various industries, leveraging her expertise in both in-house and provider roles. Lucy's career in occupational health is driven by a passion for promoting workplace safety and employee well-being.
Lucy is currently the Head of Occupational Health and Wellbeing at Mitie, a facilities transformation business. In this role, she integrates her extensive knowledge of occupational health with innovative strategies to promote a safer and healthier workplace for both Mitie employees and their customers.

All bookings will be confirmed in writing.
You will not be registered for this event unless payment accompanies your application. Places cannot be held provisionally.

- Your Finance department/accounts payable contact email address to receive an electronic copy of the invoice from us.
- A completed RCN Events Booking Form for each delegate in the booking.
Once the invoice has been raised, you will then receive confirmation of your delegate booking on the event requested. Invoices are to be paid within 30 days of the invoice being issued.

On arrival please make your way to the RCN registration desk which will be clearly signposted. You will be issued with conference materials, including a programme, certificate of attendance and a name badge. Refreshments will be available through-out registration which takes place 9 – 9.55am.

Cancellations and substitutions
Cancellations received one week before the start of the event will be refunded, minus a £25 administration fee. Regrettably, no refunds can be processed after this date.
